Disclaimer

Effective date: July 7, 2026. Read this before relying on anything published on studentloanreset.com. Every section below is meant literally.

1. Independent publication — no government affiliation

Student Loan Reset is an independent educational website. We are not the U.S. Department of Education, Federal Student Aid, or any loan servicer, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or connected to any government agency, servicer, or lender. Any reference to government programs, agencies, or servicers is for identification and education only. We cannot view your loan accounts, change your repayment plan, process applications, or take any action on your behalf. Every official student loan action — plan elections, consolidations, PSLF certifications, default resolution — happens exclusively at StudentAid.gov or through your loan servicer, and every one of those actions is free.

2. Educational information, not advice

Nothing on this site constitutes financial advice, legal advice, tax advice, or credit counseling, and nothing here creates any professional or fiduciary relationship. Our articles, comparisons, and worked examples describe how programs work in general; they cannot account for your complete circumstances. Decisions about repayment plans, refinancing, consolidation, tax-filing status, or forgiveness strategy can carry consequences worth thousands of dollars and, in some cases, are irreversible. Before acting on anything you read here, verify the current rules at StudentAid.gov and consider consulting a qualified professional — a CPA or tax attorney for tax-filing strategy, a student-loan-literate financial planner for repayment strategy, or a consumer attorney for disputes.

3. Calculator and estimates disclaimer

The RAP Payment Calculator and every worked example on this site produce estimates derived from the statutory formula in P.L. 119-21 and the assumptions stated on the calculator page. They are educational illustrations, not quotes, promises, or official determinations. Your servicer's and the Department of Education's official calculations control in every case. Formulas, poverty guidelines, program rules, and deadlines can change through legislation, litigation, or rulemaking after our last update, and estimates may not reflect the rules in force when you act.

4. Accuracy, currency, and no guarantees

We work from primary sources — the statute, Congressional Research Service analysis, and Department of Education guidance — and we date our pages. Even so, we make no representation or warranty that any content is accurate, complete, or current at the moment you read it. The 2026–2028 transition is governed by active rulemaking and ongoing litigation; details can change quickly. We do not guarantee any outcome — any payment amount, forgiveness result, approval, timeline, or savings figure — from following anything published here. Where we describe outcomes, they are illustrations of how rules operate, not predictions for your case.

5. Affiliate and advertising disclosure (FTC)

In accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's endorsement guidelines (16 CFR Part 255), be aware: some links on this site — primarily on refinancing-related pages — are affiliate links. If you click one and complete a qualifying transaction (such as funding a loan), we may receive a commission at no additional cost to you. Pages containing affiliate links carry their own disclosure at the point of use. The site may also display third-party advertising. Compensation never determines our editorial conclusions: our refinancing content warns most readers away from refinancing, and that analysis stands regardless of any commercial relationship. We do not accept payment for coverage, rankings, or favorable treatment.

6. Third-party content and links

This site links to government resources, servicer sites, news publications, and commercial partners. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, or business practices. A link is a citation or a convenience, not an endorsement. Any product or service you obtain from a third party — including any loan — is governed solely by your agreement with that party.

7. What we will never ask for

We will never ask for your FSA ID or password, your Social Security number, your loan account credentials, or payment for enrollment, plan changes, forgiveness applications, or "document preparation." No legitimate actor charges for those things — they are free at StudentAid.gov. The 2026–2028 deadline waves are peak season for student-loan scams; anyone contacting you in our name, requesting credentials, or charging fees for federal loan actions is a fraud and should be reported to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov and to your state attorney general.

8. Errors and corrections

If you believe anything on this site is inaccurate or out of date, please tell us via the contact form. Confirmed errors are corrected promptly, and material corrections are noted on the affected page. See our About page for the full editorial methodology and our sources index for every primary document behind the site.

9. Relationship to our Terms of Use

This Disclaimer is incorporated into and forms part of our Terms of Use, which include the complete disclaimer of warranties and limitation of liability governing your use of the site.
